From Lapalud, Josué Poulain works across four neighbouring departments: Vaucluse, Drôme, Gard and Ardèche. These are the towns he travels to most often.
The 30 km radius around Lapalud covers the whole Rhône valley between Montélimar and Orange. The list below is not exhaustive: if your village is not on it but sits in the area, call — it is often still possible.call 06 43 12 45 37 — it is often still possible.
In every one of these towns, the same six tree and garden care services are available: pruning, hedge trimming, felling, maintenance, mowing and brush clearing.
Coming out to look and to price is free anywhere in the radius, and it appears on no quote — neither as a line nor folded into the price. There is no rate that climbs with the kilometres: Bollène is seven minutes away, Orange twenty-five, and a day’s work is not priced differently between the two.
What does change is the scheduling of small jobs. Two hundred square metres of mowing, or ten metres of hedge, does not fill a day: they are fitted into a round already planned for that area. That means a few more days’ wait than a large job — and it is also what makes it possible to take them on at a price that holds.
Beyond 30 km, nothing is refused out of hand. The radius is an honest marker, not a barrier: a week’s work forty kilometres away is worth discussing, an hour of mowing forty kilometres away is not. Call, and you get an answer straight away.
Four departments, a river down the middle, and a wind that decides the rest. The same tree is not cut the same way on either bank of the Rhône.
Lapalud, Bollène, Mondragon, Pierrelatte: flat ground, deep soil, and plots edged with cypress planted as windbreaks. The hedges are tall because they have a job to do, and cutting them back too low removes the shelter they provide. Access often runs along farm tracks — passable, but narrow.
Bourg-Saint-Andéol, Pont-Saint-Esprit, Saint-Just: the slope arrives quickly, the garrigue starts at the end of the garden, and holm oak, Aleppo pine and juniper take over from the lowland species. On a terrace wall you cannot bring up a platform: the work is done on ropes, and the timber comes down by hand.
It blows along the axis of the valley, always from the same side, and it shapes everything: trees thrown off balance towards the south, open forks that never close again, hedges that grow at a slant. A cut that ignores the exposure lasts one season. A cut that allows for it lets the tree find its balance again.
Orange, Bollène, Pont-Saint-Esprit: narrow lanes, nowhere to park, courtyards reached down a passage. No machine gets in. The tree comes apart in sections lowered on a rope and wheeled out by barrow, which takes twice as long — and it is the one item that explains the gap with a quote for open ground.
Every area has its own trees, its own ground and its own access constraints.
This is home. Josué works out of the Grèzes Basses quarter, on village plots as readily as on properties out on the edge. Travel time is minimal, which often makes it possible to fit a small job in quickly.
Larger plots as a rule, with overgrown parcels needing to be brought back. Brush clearing and felling account for most of the requests here.
Ten minutes away. A lot of cypress and laurel hedging on the estates, and mature plane trees in the town centre that need regular reduction.
Twenty minutes south. Pruning tall trees in tight surroundings, between walls and roofs — exactly the kind of job where rope dismantling earns its keep.
A dense residential area: mowing, hedge trimming and routine upkeep, with visits that slot easily into a round.
