Roughly what it costs
Nobody can price a tree without seeing it, and being wary of anyone who does it over the phone is a sound instinct. What can be said in advance is the unit each job is counted in, and which single item makes two quotes differ fourfold for the same size of work.

From the first call to clean ground
Étape 1 — You call or write
Tell us what you have: a tree, a hedge, a whole plot. A photo from your phone is often enough to understand the job.
Étape 2 — Josué comes to look
He comes out to measure, check the access, the condition of the tree and what stands around it — neighbours, power lines, roof. The visit is free.
Étape 3 — You get a written quote
An itemised quote, job by job, with clearance included. Take all the time you need: nothing is committed until you sign.
Étape 4 — The work, then the clean-up
Josué comes on the agreed date. At the end, the branches are taken away and the ground is raked. You get your garden back, not a building site.

What the quote does not show you
One person, start to finish
You speak to Josué on the phone, Josué comes to quote, and Josué is the one who climbs the tree. No middleman, no subcontracting.
Working at height is a trade
Pruning a large tree above a roof or a fence is not improvised. The right equipment, ropes and harness — and cuts that respect the tree so it regrows properly.
The ground is left clean
Removing the branches and green waste is part of the quote unless stated otherwise. No pile left at the bottom of the garden.

What to do, and when
Every job has its season. Cutting at the wrong moment tires the tree and gives a poor result. These are the markers Josué works to in this region.
September, October, November
The main pruning season. Once the sap has dropped, a tree copes far better with cutting. This is the moment to reduce one that has grown too wide.

A tree that threatens: call, do not fill anything in
The mistral splits forks that hold for weeks and then let go without warning. In these three cases the form only wastes time: phone, send a photo, and Josué comes out first.
Josué works alone: he will not promise to be there within the hour, and he will tell you plainly if the case is one for the fire service rather than for a tree surgeon.
A tree has come down, or is resting on something
On a roof, a fence, a cable. Do not walk underneath and do not climb on it: a leaning trunk is under tension and releases all at once the moment it is cut in the wrong place. If a cable is involved, call the network operator before you call us.
A fork has split high up
A fork opened by a gust does not close again, and the split half stays above whatever was underneath it. It comes down in sections on a rope — not by leaving it through the winter.
A tree leaned over this week
A tree that has always leaned is often perfectly stable. One that tipped after a storm is not: look at the ground at its foot. If it is lifting or cracking in an arc, the roots are giving way and the tree will come down.
The questions we get asked most
Is the quote really free?
Yes. The visit, the on-site assessment and the written quote are free and commit you to nothing. You only pay if you accept the quote.
Do you cover my area?
If you are within 30 km of Lapalud, yes: Bollène, Mondragon, Pont-Saint-Esprit, Pierrelatte, Orange, Bourg-Saint-Andéol and the surrounding villages. Further out, call and we will look at it together.
What happens to the wood and the branches?
Everything is taken away at the end of the job, unless you want to keep the wood: in that case Josué cuts it and stacks it wherever you like — just say so when the quote is drawn up.
Do I need permission to fell a tree?
Sometimes. Some trees are protected by the local planning scheme, sit within a classified wooded area, or require a prior declaration to the town hall. Josué tells you during the visit and points you to the right procedure. No felling begins until that is settled.
My tree is very tall and close to the house — is that possible?
That is exactly the core of the trade. Pruning is done by dismantling, branch by branch, with ropes and a harness, so nothing lands on the roof or the fence.
When is the best time to trim my hedge?
The main trim is done in late summer or autumn. A maintenance trim is possible in spring, after flowering. Between mid-March and the end of July, we check for nests before starting.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the height, the access, the volume to be taken away and the time spent on site. That is precisely why Josué comes out: pricing over the phone without having seen the tree or the ground means getting it wrong — one way or the other. The visit and the written quote are free, and the price quoted is the price you pay.
Do I need to be there while the work is done?
For the assessment, ideally yes: that is when you say what you want kept and what bothers you. On the day of the work, you do not need to be present as long as access is possible. You come back to clean ground with the green waste gone.
What is the difference between pruning and felling?
Pruning keeps the tree: what is in the way or at risk comes off, the tree stays standing and grows back. Felling removes it. Between the two there is almost always a middle path — a well-judged crown reduction settles many situations where the owner assumed the tree had to come down. Josué says so plainly when that is the case: a felled tree does not grow back in a season.
Is my land subject to the statutory clearance obligation?
It is if your house stands in a wooded massif or in the 200-metre band around it — many owners in the northern Vaucluse are covered without knowing it. Where it applies, the obligation covers 50 metres around the building and 3 metres either side of private access roads. And it follows the HOUSE, not the plot, so it can extend onto a neighbour’s land. Your town hall confirms how your plot is classified.
A tree looks ready to come down — can you come quickly?
Call. Josué works alone: there is no night call-out, and saying otherwise would be untrue. That said, a split or leaning tree after a mistral goes to the front of the diary, and making it safe usually fits within the week. The first thing to do costs nothing: stay out from under it and move the cars.
Who pays for pruning — the tenant or the owner?
Routine garden upkeep — mowing, hedge trimming, light maintenance pruning — falls to the tenant. Heavy work, felling and making a dangerous tree safe fall to the owner. In practice the line is open to discussion: Josué makes out the quote to whoever commissions the work, and the document records what was done, which helps settle it.
