Getting to Mondragon from Lapalud
Five minutes from Lapalud, the neighbouring commune to the south. It is the closest in the whole area, and that translates very concretely: a job can often be fitted in within the week, and a short visit stays worthwhile for you as well as for Josué.
The gardens here, and what they involve
Noticeably larger plots than in Bollène or Pierrelatte, and a lot of land needing to be brought back: grubbed-up vineyards, family plots left for ten years, edges that run into the massif. Clearing and felling are the majority of enquiries here, well ahead of mowing. It is also the commune where jobs most often happen in two stages: a reset, then an arrangement that stops the plot closing over again.
Statutory clearance: what applies here
Mondragon lies inside the wildfire risk prevention plan for the Uchaux massif, alongside Bollène, Mornas, Piolenc, Uchaux, Sérignan-du-Comtat and Lagarde-Paréol. With plots often large and close to the massif, it is the commune here where statutory clearance affects the highest proportion of owners — and where the 200-metre band surprises people most, because you can be covered without a single forest tree on your land.

The dominant species, and what they demand
Black locust regrowth, brambles and holm oak take a plot back within two or three seasons. On land left to itself, young woody growth moves from brushcutter to chainsaw within a single year of delay: going in early costs far less than waiting. In the gardens, cypress and laurel as everywhere here, with a few fine standalone trees — planes, mulberries — inherited from the old farms.
A year on a plot in Mondragon
Forty square kilometres for under four thousand people: here you do not keep a garden, you hold a plot. And a plot on the edge of woodland is managed by the calendar, not by inclination.

The open window
Vegetation dormant, ground carrying, fire risk nil. It is the only period when work on plots at the foot of the Uchaux massif runs without constraint — and therefore the cheapest.

Getting compliant
Clearance around buildings finishes now, not in June. Plots on the woodland edge are the first affected, and they are also the ones that produce the most volume.
- Mid-March to mid-August
The nesting season
Hedges and thickets are left alone. Around the Île Vieille marsh, where riverside woodland holds poplar, willow and ash, the constraint is stricter still: you check first, and postpone if need be.

Work under restriction
At high risk, the use of powered tools that can throw sparks is restricted by order. On dry ground backing onto garrigue this is no formality: it decides whether the job happens that day.
- September – October
Picking up again
Cypress windbreaks and the giant reed along the ditches are taken back after the rains. On the farmland lines of the plain you do not count hedges in metres but in hundreds of metres.
- November – December
The access tracks
The rural tracks serving Derboux and the isolated farmsteads are cleared before winter. A closed-over track means a job done by barrow rather than by lorry — and it is the first item to run over.

What moves a quote in Mondragon
No price is given without seeing the ground. What can be said is what, here specifically, pushes it up or down.
Five minutes: travel is as low as it gets
Mondragon borders Lapalud and is the closest commune in the whole area. A small job is worth doing here for you as well as for Josué, and it slots readily between two longer ones — which usually means within the week.
One year of delay changes the tool
On the overgrown plots around here, young woody growth moves from brushcutter to chainsaw within a single season of delay. For the same area, the same ground taken on a year later prices distinctly higher. It is the factor that moves a Mondragon quote most.
Large plots are handled in two stages
A reset followed by a maintenance visit costs less, overall, than a reset repeated every four years. So the quote separates the two: the initial job, and the visit that stops the plot closing over again.

Common questions in Mondragon
My plot has been left for years. Where do we start?
By walking the ground, before anything else. We look at what is underneath — a wall, a fence, a well, often good trees worth keeping — and agree together how far the work goes. Clearing follows, with a brushcutter for the low growth and a chainsaw for the woody regrowth. What matters after that is coming back: cleared ground closes over within two years.
Does the clearance obligation apply in Mondragon?
